- 2 mediumlarge onions
- 120 gall-purpose flour
- 60 gcornstarch
- 1 tspsmoked paprika
- 0.5 tspgarlic powder
- 0.5 tsponion powder
- 1 Pinchsalt(to taste)
- 1 Pinchblack pepper(to taste)
- 200 mlcold sparkling water
- 100 gPanko breadcrumbs
- 2 tbspvegetable oil
Instructions
Peel the onions and slice them into 1 cm (0.4 inch) thick rings. Separate the rings and set them aside.
In a shallow bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Whisk well.
Gradually add the cold sparkling water to the dry ingredients, whisking until you have a smooth, thin batter. Make sure there are no lumps.
In another shallow bowl, place the Panko breadcrumbs.
Dip each onion ring first into the batter, ensuring it's fully coated, then transfer it to the Panko breadcrumbs. Press the breadcrumbs gently onto the onion ring to ensure it's well covered.
Preheat your air fryer to 200°C (390°F). Lightly spray the air fryer basket with vegetable oil.
Arrange the breaded onion rings in a single layer in the air fryer basket, making sure not to overcrowd it. You will likely need to cook them in batches.
Lightly spray the top of the onion rings with vegetable oil. Air fry for 10-15 minutes, flipping them halfway through, until golden brown and crispy. Cooking time may vary depending on your air fryer model.
Remove the crispy onion rings from the air fryer and serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.
💡 Tipp
Varianten
- Add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the batter for a spicy kick.
- Experiment with different spices in the batter, such as chili powder or cumin.

- Any neutral-flavored oil can be used instead of vegetable oil for spraying.
