- 200 gWhole almonds, blanched
- 100 gGranulated sugar
- 1 packetVanilla sugar((approx. 8g or 2 tsp vanilla extract))
- 1 tspCinnamon
- 1 pinchSalt
- 50 mlWater
Instructions
In a medium bowl, combine the almonds, granulated sugar, vanilla sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Mix well to ensure the almonds are evenly coated with the dry ingredients.
Add the water to the almond mixture and stir again until all almonds are moistened. This helps the sugar mixture adhere better during cooking.
Preheat your air fryer to 320°F (160°C). If your air fryer requires it, line the basket with parchment paper, ensuring it doesn't block air circulation.
Transfer the coated almonds to the air fryer basket in a single layer. Avoid overcrowding the basket; cook in batches if necessary.
Air fry for 15-20 minutes, shaking the basket every 5 minutes to ensure even cooking and to prevent the almonds from sticking together. The sugar will melt and then caramelize, coating the almonds.
Keep a close eye on the almonds during the last few minutes, as sugar can burn quickly. They are done when they are golden brown and the sugar coating is crunchy.
Carefully remove the candied almonds from the air fryer and spread them out on a sheet of parchment paper or a silicone mat to cool completely. As they cool, they will become even crispier.
Once completely cooled, break apart any almonds that have clumped together. Serve immediately or store for later enjoyment.
💡 Tipp
Varianten
- Add a pinch of cardamom or a drop of almond extract for extra flavor.
- Experiment with different nuts like pecans or walnuts for a similar treat.
Ersatz & Alternativen
- If you don't have vanilla sugar, use 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract instead.
- For a slightly different flavor, try brown sugar in place of granulated sugar.
Aufbewahrung
Store the cooled candied almonds in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two weeks.
Einfrieren
Not recommended for freezing, as it may affect the crispness.
