- 4 piecesWeisswurst (Bavarian veal sausage)
- 1 Lwater
- 1 tbspsalt
- 2 pieceslarge soft pretzels((store-bought or homemade))
- 1 tbspsweet mustard
Instructions
First, prepare the Weisswurst. Bring 1 liter of water to a boil in a medium pot. Add 1 tablespoon of salt to the water.
Once the water is boiling, reduce the heat to low. The water should be hot, but not boiling vigorously. Carefully add the Weisswurst to the pot.
Let the Weisswurst steep in the hot water for about 10-15 minutes. Do not boil them, as this can cause the casings to burst.
While the Weisswurst are steeping, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the soft pretzels directly on the oven rack or on a baking sheet.
Bake the pretzels for 5-7 minutes, or until they are warm and slightly crispy on the outside. Be careful not to overbake them, as they can dry out quickly.
Once the Weisswurst are heated through, carefully remove them from the water using tongs. Drain them well.
Serve the warm Weisswurst immediately with the oven-fresh pretzels and a generous dollop of sweet mustard. Enjoy your authentic Bavarian meal!
💡 Tipp
Varianten
- Try serving with a side of sauerkraut for added flavor.
- For a spicier kick, use a different type of mustard.
Ersatz & Alternativen
- If Weisswurst is unavailable, a high-quality bratwurst can be used as an alternative, though the flavor profile will differ.
- Any soft, crusty bread can be substituted for pretzels if necessary.
Aufbewahrung
Leftover Weisswurst can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat gently in hot water.
Einfrieren
Uncooked Weisswurst can be frozen for up to 3 months. Thaw completely before cooking. Baked pretzels can be frozen and reheated.
