- 4 slicescheddar cheese
- 4 piecesburger buns
- 1 piecered onion(sliced)
- 1 piecetomato(sliced)
- 4 leaveslettuce(e.g., green leaf or romaine)
- 4 piecesdill pickles(sliced)
- 1 Tbspvegetable oil
- 1 tspsalt(to taste)
- 0.5 tspblack pepper(freshly ground, to taste)
- 4 Tbspketchup
- 4 Tbspmustard
Instructions
Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions. Gently form each portion into a patty, about 1 inch thick and slightly wider than your burger buns. Make a small indentation in the center of each patty with your thumb to prevent it from bulging while cooking.
Season both sides of the patties generously with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or on a grill over medium-high heat. Once hot, place the patties in the skillet or on the grill.
Cook for 3-4 minutes per side for medium-rare, or longer to your desired doneness. For the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on top of each patty to melt.
While the burgers are cooking, lightly toast the burger buns on the grill or in a separate pan until golden brown.
Assemble your cheeseburgers: Spread ketchup and mustard on the toasted bun halves. Place a lettuce leaf on the bottom bun, followed by the cheesy patty, tomato slices, red onion slices, and dill pickles. Top with the other bun half.
