- 1 bay leafBay leaf
- 1 pinchSalt(to taste)
- 1 pinchBlack pepper(freshly ground, to taste)
- 400 gSpaghettiGluten
- 50 gParmesan cheese(freshly grated, for serving)Milch
- 1 tbspFresh parsley(chopped, for garnish)
Instructions
Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned. Drain any excess fat and set the beef aside.
In the same pot, add the chopped onion, diced carrots, and diced celery. Sauté for 5-7 minutes until the vegetables soften.
Add the minced garlic and tomato paste to the pot. Cook for another 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly, until fragrant.
Pour in the red wine and bring it to a simmer, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pot. Let it simmer for 5 minutes until the wine has reduced by about half.
Return the browned ground beef to the pot. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, beef broth, dried oregano, dried basil, and bay leaf. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and let it cook for at least 1.5 to 2 hours, stirring occasionally. The longer it simmers, the more flavor it will develop. If the sauce becomes too thick, you can add a little more beef broth or water.
About 15 minutes before the sauce is ready, cook the spaghetti according to package directions in a large pot of salted boiling water until al dente.
Remove the bay leaf from the Bolognese sauce. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.
Drain the spaghetti and divide it among serving plates. Top generously with the hearty Bolognese sauce. Garnish with freshly grated Parmesan cheese and chopped fresh parsley.
💡 Tipp
Varianten
- Add a splash of milk or heavy cream to the sauce during the last 30 minutes of simmering for extra richness.
- Include finely chopped mushrooms or bell peppers along with the other vegetables for more depth of flavor and texture.
- Try using a mix of ground beef and ground pork for a more traditional Bolognese flavor.
Ersatz & Alternativen
- If you don't have red wine, you can substitute with an equal amount of beef broth and a splash of balsamic vinegar.
- For a dairy-free option, omit the Parmesan cheese or use a dairy-free alternative.
- Any long pasta, such as tagliatelle or fettuccine, can be used instead of spaghetti.
Aufbewahrung
Leftover Bolognese sauce can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.
Einfrieren
The Bolognese sauce freezes beautifully. Allow it to cool completely, then transfer to freezer-safe containers or bags. It can be frozen for up to 3 months. Thaw in the refrigerator overnight and reheat gently on the stovetop.
