- 1 baguetteBaguette
- 2 tbspOlive oil
- 400 gRipe tomatoes(e.g., Roma or cherry tomatoes)
- 0.5 small bunchFresh basil
- 1 cloveGarlic
- 1 tbspBalsamic vinegar(white or red)
- 1 tspSugar
- 1 pinchSalt(to taste)
- 1 pinchBlack pepper(freshly ground, to taste)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Slice the baguette into 1/2-inch thick pieces. Arrange them on a baking sheet.
Drizzle the baguette slices with 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Set aside to cool.
While the crostini are baking, prepare the salsa. Wash the tomatoes and basil. Finely dice the tomatoes. Roughly chop the basil leaves. Mince the garlic clove.
In a medium bowl, combine the diced tomatoes, chopped basil, minced garlic, remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and sugar.
Season the salsa with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste. Stir well to combine all ingredients.
Let the salsa sit for at least 10-15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld. This step is crucial for the best taste!
Just before serving, spoon a generous amount of the tomato basil salsa onto each crispy crostini. Serve immediately and enjoy!
💡 Tipp
Varianten
- Add finely diced red onion to the salsa for a sharper flavor.
- Top with a sprinkle of crumbled feta or fresh mozzarella.
- For a spicier kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the salsa.
Ersatz & Alternativen
- Instead of baguette, you can use ciabatta or another crusty bread.
- If fresh basil is unavailable, you can use 1 teaspoon of dried basil, but fresh is highly recommended.
- White wine vinegar can be substituted for balsamic vinegar.
Aufbewahrung
Store leftover salsa in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Store crostini separately in an airtight container at room temperature.
Einfrieren
The salsa is not suitable for freezing as the tomatoes will become watery. Crostini can be frozen un-toasted, then baked when ready to use.
